APRIL 2002
April 28, 2002
I updated the site a little today. I changed the scrollbars to black & orange because I think it looks cute like that. Anyway, sorry I didn't post this earlier but I was having problems logging in to the site. A few days ago Albert was on the Jim Rome show. I don't get that here so I'm sorry I don't have any sound clips or anything. He went on there and talked about Omar Vizquel's recent comments about him. Vizquel put out a book and in his book there is a chapter titled: "Albert and Other Clubhouse Characters". He opens the chapter by saying, "I didn't hate Albert Belle. But he was certainly a difficult guy to like." Basically, he goes on to talk about how all of Albert's bats were corked when they were teammates in the early 90's. Albert's reply? "No, I never used a corked bat," he said. "... And if I was using cork, don't you think I would have hit 60 or 70 homers in a season? If all my bats were corked, how come they haven't surfaced? A lot of my bats were lifted from my locker." He went on to say, "Don't you think all the people who hated me over the course of the my career would have gone out of their way to steal one of my corked bats?" You can read more in this article at CNNSI.com and this article from the Columbia Daily Tribune.

Wow Albert made the news! Ok but not for anything really good. I don't like to share bad news, but I also don't want to be accused of neglecting it. Albert was arrested last Saturday for a DUI. He was pulled over after a police officer said he saw a 2003 Rolls Royce Bentley weaving on a north Scottsdale street and traveling 55 mph, which was 10 mph over the speed limit. Belle told an officer that he drank 4 beers at a Phoenix bar followed by 3 margaritas at a Scottsdale restaurant before getting behind the wheel. He had a 0.12 blood-alcohol level, above Arizona's DUI level of 0.08, police said. Additionally, he was cited for no proof of insurance, speeding and making an unsafe lane change. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've had anything regarding Albert to share... but someone sent me a link to this site where there is an interview with him. Check it out at http://www.sportstalkcleveland.com. For some reason it won't work on my computer, but give it a shot! Happy Holidays to everyone out there!
